Considering modern construction technologies and possibilities, one should not count only on natural ventilation (traditional ventilation) in a residential building.
Traditionally, windows and doors have been used to ventilate indoor air. In older houses, also stoves and fireplaces have the function of ventilating indoor air. However, this may not be efficient and sufficient. Ventilating rooms through windows, doors and special ventilation airways is unsystematic and uncontrollable – the ventilation is either excessive or insufficient. A lot of heat also escapes through doors and windows, which makes such ventilation cost in energy.
