Foundations

The foundation is the lowest part of a building (or fixture), through which the load of the construction is transferred to the base. The foundation is affected by the vertical loads from the building’s structures, horizontal soil pressure, vibration transferred through soil, the effects of soil water, periodical freezing and melting, the chemical aggressiveness of the soil water, the co-effects of indoor and outdoor temperatures etc.

Depending on the base type, the correct foundation has to be chosen for the buildings constructed:

• strip foundation,
• post foundation,
• slab foundation,
• pile foundation.
